Valuing Time: Make Wise Choices for God

Ephesians 5:15–16 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil.

Redeeming Time: Making Wise Choices in an Evil Age There is a saying, “You Can Determine What You Value by Where You Spend Your Time.” This made me realize that time is a valuable currency we invest. Whatever we spend our time on can bring either good or bad returns. Understanding how short our time is compared to eternity highlights the importance of God’s words and guidance. By recognizing that time spent following God’s plans brings the best rewards, we can make up for lost and wasted years.

The Apostle Paul in writing to the Church in Ephesus encouraged the saints to live in obedience to God’s words because the times they were living in was full of deceptions of the soul. It was much like our times, and he was warning them that the choices or decisions they make could either steal their time away from the kingdom or they could redeem the lost time.

Every time we make a choice to follow God’s way we are obeying his will for our lives, and that frees up more time for us to accomplish more for him. We can actually do more for the kingdom when we need not keep cleaning up the messes of our poor choices.

I value time far more now that I am older; in my twenties, I mistakenly believed I had all the time in the world, which led to many unwise decisions in my life. Today, I urge you to take a moment to reflect on the choices you make each day and genuinely assess how much you value your time.

Being “wise” (sophos) involves discernment and making choices that align with God’s will. This requires a deep understanding of Scripture and a prayerful attitude. Bible Hub

Reflections: The phrase “because the days are evil” serves as a reminder of the moral and spiritual challenges present in the world. Believers must be vigilant and discerning, living counter-culturally in a way that reflects Christ. Bible Hub

Prayer: Lord, help me today to make better choices and decisions so I can redeem the lost time.
