“From distribution to relationship. At SpringHill Park, we were reminded that every box shared represents a family, every volunteer represents compassion, and every conversation is an opportunity to build community.”

One month after our first visit to SpringHill Park, we returned—not just to serve, but to continue building relationships.

What began as an opportunity to support a community food distribution has become a reminder of something we have seen over and over again at Hope 1 Ministries: meaningful outreach happens when we show up consistently.

This was our second time serving at SpringHill Park, and this time my daughter joined me. We were assigned to the check-in table, where she immediately stepped into her role by welcoming families and helping make sure everyone was registered for food distribution.

Throughout the day, we had the privilege of serving 468 families. But beyond the number, what stood out were the people behind the number—the families, children, volunteers, and community members who came together.

At the check-in table, I met a wonderful family with three children: Jordan, a fifth grader; Ezekiel, a sixth grader; and Aaliyah, a second grader who quickly became my little helper for the day. She followed along, helping carry bags and looking for ways to serve.

Watching this family serve together reminded me of my own family and the importance of creating opportunities where children learn that serving others is something we do together.

One of the beautiful things about community outreach is seeing how everyone has something to contribute. Teenagers stepped up to help organize and encourage younger volunteers. Families served alongside one another. Community leaders and volunteers connected through a shared desire to make a difference.

The day also reminded me that outreach is not only about what we give—it is also about what we receive through the relationships formed along the way.

At the end of the distribution, we were blessed with additional food items, including fresh fruits and vegetables. Those extra resources allowed us to share with seniors in our community who could benefit from the overflow.

This is the heart of Hope 1 Ministries: seeing a need, responding with compassion, and allowing relationships to guide the next step.

Over the years, our outreach has continued to grow and change. What started with books in the park, children’s activities, and community events has evolved into something deeper—showing up consistently, knowing names, recognizing faces, and walking alongside people throughout the seasons of life.

At SpringHill Park, we are reminded that community is built one conversation, one act of kindness, and one relationship at a time.

We are grateful for every volunteer, every partner, and every family who allows us to serve alongside them.

Because outreach is not just about a moment.

It is about relationship.
