“You visit the earth and water it. You greatly enrich it. The river of God is full of water. You provide their grain, for so you have prepared it.”
– Psalm 65:9
God, we praise you for rain. We praise you for your daily sustenance of this world, of our lives, in this world. You are the creator of all, the sustainer of all. In the words of Job, you hold the store houses of rain, water falls from the sky at your bidding. You are sovereign over it all, and we praise you for your grace in it all.
It’s easy to see how important it is to get rain. God demonstrates his existence not only in his creation but by his sustaining power as well. The best and the wisest farmers know that after they have done their best, the crop results depend on the weather more than anything else. God provides all we have to enjoy so we serve him joyfully and give him thanks for all things. He shows his love for us in many ways. The greatest show of his love is not in the rain or other physical things. He demonstrated his love for us in that while we were yet sinners, he sent his Son to die for our sin so we can live with him forever.
God, we praise you for rain. We praise you for your daily sustenance of this world, of our lives, in this world. You are the creator of all, the sustainer of all.
You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the desert overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. The meadows are covered with flocks and the valleys are mantled with grain; they shout for joy and sing. Psalm 65:10-13
Rain is grace; rain is the sky descending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.”
– John Updik

Heavenly Father, thank you for the rain we get that sustains us and gives us food to eat. Thank you for the sunshine that brightens our days and helps provide for our lives. We praise you for the springtime that cheers our lives, for the summers that allow things to grow, for the beauty of the autumn as the trees change their colors and for the winter when things rest to begin again. We praise you for each season of our lives and ask you to help us use what you have given us to your glory, regardless of our age. In the name of Jesus my Lord I pray.
