The Divine Nature of God

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.”

romans 1:20

In today’s devotional, Paul points out in Romans 1 that no one can claim an excuse for not seeing what God has obviously put on Earth in so many wonderful, various ways—the glory of His majesty. Look around and see if your spirit does not confirm the truth. Look at the way things work in the creation of the earth, let alone heaven. To stop and consider that we exist and to ponder, even as children do, that there simply must have been a Creator, will prove it in our hearts. To have created all of this and to continue sustaining it, there must be a God, and he must be divine in his nature. One only needs to look around this earth to see the beauty of the Lord, to receive testimony of His glory, and to prove not only His existence, but His care and provision over all living things.

I love to think of nature as an unlimited broadcasting station, through which God speaks to us every hour, if we will only tune in.

— George Washington Carver

Today’s Prayer:

Precious Father, thank You for allowing us to benefit from the beauty of all that Your hand has created. Thank You for our seas, forests, and skies. Thank You for all the beautiful and fragrant plants, and for the power and wonder of every animal. Thank You for the seasons and the rains that keep our earth reproducing. We will wake the dawn with our song. O Lord, our Lord, Your majestic Name fills the earth! Your glory is higher than the heavens. When we look at the night sky and see the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars you set in place; what are mortals that You should think about them, human beings that You should care for them? The highest heavens and the earth and everything in it all belong to You. We are blessed to be the recipients of all the beauty that surrounds us and testifies of Your awesome glory. We will sing to You as long as we live. We will praise You until our last breath! May all our thoughts be pleasing to You, for we rejoice in You, Father.

Today’s Action: Set your heart on who God is. Focus on what God’s Word has revealed about his character and nature and express your awe and wonder of him.

From the beginning, creation in its magnificence enlightens us to His nature. Creation itself makes His undying power and divine identity clear, even though they are invisible; and it voids the excuses and ignorant claims of these people
