Psalms 100:3 Know that the Lord is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
We may not always feel very thankful as we go through life in a fallen world, but the Bible teaches each that we should be thankful in all things. Of course, this is not to say that we should be thankful for all things, but rather that we have reasons to be thankful during all things. Psalm 100 offers some insights as to why this is true.
In addition to yesterday’s truth, the One with whom we have a relationship as our Lord is the one true God over all things. We also learn from this Psalm that we are His. We belong to God, who is overall creation. He has taken a special interest in us and has claimed us for His own. The Psalm says that we are His people and the sheep of his pasture. He made us, and we have been redeemed by Him. We are not a random accident, nor are we left alone to fend for ourselves in a sometimes very harsh world. We are people who belong to The Almighty God, and He is both our creator and our active shepherd as we go through life.
This is not a statement of limitation, but of belonging. Sheep in a pasture are not abandoned or random; they are known, watched over, and guided. The imagery reminds us that God’s care is intentional and continuous. We are not self-sustained beings drifting through life without purpose. We are designed, formed, and sustained by a Creator who does not forget His creation.
To “know that the LORD is God” is more than intellectual agreement—it is trust. It is the shift from self-reliance to God-reliance. It’s the quiet surrender that says, “My life makes more sense in Your hands than in my control.”
And perhaps the most comforting part is this: “it is he that hath made us.” That means your existence is not accidental. Your personality, your story, even your growth process—God is not surprised by any of it. He is the One who formed you, and He is also the One who gently leads you.
Today, this verse invites reflection: Where am I trying to be self-made instead of God-shaped? Where am I carrying identity that was never meant to rest on my shoulders?
You are not self-authored. You are God-made, God-known, and God-held.
The God who made us has also bought us with Christ paying the cost of our sins upon the cross, and we are completely His. That is worth being thankful for no matter the circumstances!

Reflections:
- How has God already shown Himself as Deliverer in my past situations?
- Am I living more like I belong to fear and pressure, or like I belong to God?
Prayer: Lord God, you are the One who brought Israel through the Red Sea when there was no way forward. You are the same God today. Thank You that my life is not shaped by impossible circumstances but by Your power to deliver. When I feel trapped or overwhelmed, remind me that I belong to You. You are my Creator, my Redeemer, and my Shepherd. Teach me to trust You in my “Red Sea moments,” when fear and uncertainty surround me. Help me to stop relying on my own strength and to rest in Your saving power. Form in me the confidence that You make a way where there is no way. I am Yours—lead me, carry me, and make my life a testimony of Your faithfulness.
