Overcoming Fear with Faith and Hope

Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

Life brings seasons of uncertainty, but as followers of Jesus, we have the promise that God is always with us.

We only have to take one look at the news to realize that the world can be a scary place, full of unknowns and uncertainties that are out of our control.

The truth is we cannot control what happens to us but we can control how we posture ourselves in the midst of uncertainty. Jesus told us that in this life we will have troubles but to take heart because He has overcome the world. This is the truth:  Jesus has overcome the world. Even though it may seem sometimes that things are spiralling our of control – take heart, Jesus is in control.

Hope is a powerful force against uncertainty, guiding us toward a future filled with God’s promises. He knows the way forward; your life is carefully planned, and He will support you. You will not be alone—your future is safe in His hands. Hope represents a strong expectation of good; it is more than just wishful thinking. It’s not just saying, “I hope so.” Hope is strong, like a helmet, but if we set it aside, it won’t protect us from harm. When we give up hope, we lose the fight.

In the Old Testament book of Habakkuk 1:5, God tells us, ‘Look at the nations and watch – and be utterly amazed. For I am going to do something in your days that you would not even believe, even if I told you.’ How exciting!! What is ahead of us is always greater than what is behind us. Your best days are ahead of you – take heart.

Cling on to the promises of God today. God is always with you. He has promised you a multitude of things. Hold on to these promises and declare them over yourself today. Remember that the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. I challenge you today to stay hopeful, keep your eyes off fear and towards all the good he is doing.

Remember that God is your guide—and that he wants you to have his help.

Reflections: You cannot depend on your memory of God. God’s Word is the full guide for the past, present, and future. It’s not enough to have read it years ago. Check it daily, abide by it, and follow its guidance.

Run to God; He is your safe place and source of hope. He is always there for you; just turn to Him and say, “Here I am.” (John 6:68; Psalm 103:4)

Run to a trusted community. Seek support from family and friends. Jesus is always with you. Just ask him to be by your side.

Worship God with Your Questions. Worship him by trusting him with your biggest, messiest questions.

Forgive others for attempting to change you and forgive yourself for not meeting your own expectations. Forgiveness is a personal choice; only you can make it. Practicing forgiveness brings back hope.

Prayer: Father, instead of masking my pain, I bring it to you. I choose to worship you with my questions. I believe that Jesus came to heal the brokenhearted and to set at liberty those who are oppressed. I present my past, my present, and all that I hope to be—my future—to you. I choose to believe that you have a hope-filled plan for the rest of my life. Gracious Lord Jesus, thank you! Amen.
