Service as Worship

I have often seen Psalm 100 as a call to praise, to sing, and to worship God in expressive ways. But today I am seeing something I had not fully connected before. I have not always equated worship with service. Most devotional teaching focuses on worship as what we do in moments of praise. But I am asking a deeper question today:

What is worship without service unto the Lord? What is a raised hand without a willing hand that feeds, serves, gives, and shows kindness? What is worship if it is only expressed in one way? I am beginning to understand that our worship also comes through our humility to move and do what God pleases.

Our obedience is worship. Our service is worship. When we serve, we are reflecting His nature—His kindness, His heart, His love.

Christ was about doing good. So, when we do good in His name, we are worshiping Him. This understanding connects deeply with my own journey. I think about the Red Sea moments in my life. I think about Operation Love, when I served even in seasons of exhaustion, pain, and uncertainty. I did not fully understand everything God was doing, but I was out in the community serving, giving, loving, and sharing His love with others.

When I returned, the problems were still there—but something in me had shifted. Over time, I have come to see that ministry was formed in those very seasons of pain, not just in the good times. Even when I did not have language for it, I was worshiping God through service. And I realize now that I am still learning this. My service is one expression of my worship because it reflects the heart of Christ.

When people see us serve, they are seeing worship in action. This also causes me to reflect on others who may not realize that what they do—at home, at work, in their communities, in church—is also worship when done unto the Lord.

Perhaps worship is not limited to one expression. Perhaps worship is revealed in many forms. And service, when done with a heart surrendered to God, is one of the clearest expressions of worship I now understand.
