A Promise Given

For the promise to Abraham or to his descendants that he would be heir of the world was not through [observing the requirements of] the Law, but through the righteousness of faith.

Romans 4:13AMP

What are the effects of faith? Our faith can change us and move us to do many things, but I want to focus on our faith humbling us. It ensures that we know who we are and makes us aware of who God is.

Abraham was an amazing man who did great things. Yet he was not justified by works, but by his faith in God. If Abraham had been justified by his works, he would have had something to boast about. But that boasting would have been meaningless before God, our Creator. Nothing human beings do can compare to what God has done. Faith humbles us and makes us realize we cannot boast before God.

 For Abraham is father of us all. He is not our racial father—that’s reading the story backward. He is our faith father.17-18 We call Abraham “father” not because he got God’s attention by living like a saint, but because God made something out of Abraham when he was a nobody

Romans 4:16-18MSG

We receive salvation as a gift from God through faith in Him. It is a gift that cannot be earned through works. This is the beauty of faith – it cannot be bought or achieved through our efforts. Those who work may receive a paycheck, but our salvation is received through trust in God. When our faith is challenged, we must ask ourselves, “What does Scripture say?” This is our foundation for life. Whether we struggle with marriage, parenting, peer pressure, or any other challenge, we must turn to God’s Word for guidance and direction. In it, we can find the answers we need and grow in faith.

Therefore, [inheriting] the promise depends entirely on faith [that is, confident trust in the unseen God], in order that it may be given as an act of grace [His unmerited favor and mercy],

Romans 4::16AMP

Today’s Action: Are there areas where you need to grow in faith and trust in God? What steps can you take to deepen your relationship with Him? Be open to His guidance through the Scriptures.

Today’s Declaration & Prayer: I am the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, not because of my own works, but because of what Jesus has done for me. Today I receive a new and fresh revelation of God’s grace, and what being in right standing with God really means.
