The Son Radiates God’s Own Glory

who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high.

Hebrews 1:3 esv

In today’s devotional Hebrews 1:3 reveals Jesus as “the exact representation of His nature” (Heb. 1:3). In fact, the Book of Hebrews also makes clear that Jesus is far superior to the angels. Angels are messengers of God. Prophets also were messengers of God. But Jesus is far greater because He is God. Angels’ primary purpose and ministry is to assist human beings toward reaching their final deliverance over their spiritual enemies. This includes protecting and strengthening believers, as well as delivering messages from God. The writer of Hebrews is reminding us that the Person whom the message is coming from is always greater than the messenger!

If Jesus does, in fact, reveal the Father, then what does Jesus’s fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9 tell us about the nature of God? He came humbly. He didn’t come in pompous or obnoxious arrogance, reveling in the adulation of the crowd. He didn’t even come demonstrating His strength, though we all know that His power is incontestable. He came in gentleness and tenderness.

Hebrews was written to encourage believers to never give up. So, if you are facing discouragement in your faith journey, then be sure to mediate on His words in this devotional to find encouragement and hope to finish the race of faith well. Remember always, God has not abandoned you, and He’s there to help you persevere through the tough times. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, and rejoice in your great salvation because Jesus is better and superior than anything else you could run to.

Lord Jesus, Lord Jesus, thank you for your finished work and for your ongoing rule over all things. May we live in gratitude, seeking to serve in building your kingdom wherever you lead us. Amen.

The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command.
