But like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves in all your conduct [be set apart from the world by your godly character and moral courage]; 16 because it is written, “You shall be holy (set apart), for I am holy.”
i pETER 1:15-16 amp
Be holy means to stand higher, elevate yourself, stand on the soles (Latin word solum – base), mean base, ground or bottom of your feet. When God created us, He created us from dust of the ground. He created us in His image and in His likeness, but he created us from the dust of the earth. To be holy means to stand above the earth that you were created from. Stand higher elevate yourself. That’s why He said, “I will make you the head and not the tail I will place you above and not beneath”. He was not talking about bringing them to heaven. What did he mean: I will elevate you So, stand above the earth you were created from! Holiness is about sanctification and setting yourself apart! that’s the whole idea of clean unclean in the Old Testament. Holiness is about setting yourself apart from that which is debase and unclean and profane. So, you understand how it became an attempt to towards moral perfection We are not going to reach moral perfection in this broken and wounded humanity. We strive. Sanctification is a process we are sanctified set apart by virtue of our relationship with Christ. But we are being sanctified as we continue to walk in this world, and we ultimately reach perfect sanctification after our reunion with Christ.
