“That all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in Us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me.” John 17:21
The greatest power God’s children have over darkness is unity. Jesus talked a great deal about His oneness with the Father and the importance of unity in the Body of Christ. It is the most difficult command Jesus gave to the Church, because it wars against the evilest aspect of our sin nature-independence.
Even more, Jesus prayed that we all might be one, as the Father and He are one. He wanted the same love God has for Jesus to be in each of us. When this love is in us, we are drawn to each other with a common mission. The walls fall down. The independent spirit is broken. Competition is destroyed. Satan’s accusations are frustrated. Our love for each other is manifest to the world around us. Lost souls begin to seek this love that is so foreign to them.
What would it look like to be part of the answer to this prayer of Jesus in our generation: “that they all may be one”? What can we do to be one with God and each other?
The greatest power God’s children have over darkness is unity.
Unity Is The Strength Of God’s People
“The strength of God’s people lies in their union with Him through His only-begotten Son, and their union with one another.” The Review and Herald, July 4, 1899 [I am not negating our need to be in union with Christ, but we often forget that union with each other is also necessary!!! However, union with each other is not possible unless we are in union with Christ. The unity that comes is a unity in diversity, where the branches attaching to the same vine, have the same values, the same interests, the same goal. Let’s seek such unity!]
