Have you ever found yourself wondering what wisdom the Bible offers on managing money? If you’re feeling overwhelmed by financial challenges or seeking ways to honor God with your resources, know that you are not alone. 1. Create a Financial Plan Rooted in Biblical Wisdom
Proverbs 21:5 says, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” Financial success begins with intentional planning.
God calls us to be stewards of the resources He provides. Start by defining your mission—what has God called you to accomplish? Then, as Luke 14:28 instructs, count the cost. Whether it’s a household budget, paying off debt, or saving for the future, having a clear plan ensures you stay on track. Write down your financial goals. Include categories for giving, saving, and spending, and review them regularly.
2. Examine Your Financial Habits
“What does the Bible teach about money?” It teaches us to take an honest look at how we manage it. Proverbs 27:23 advises, “Know the state of your flocks.” In today’s terms, this means knowing your financial situation—your income, expenses, and what’s working or not. The Bible also warns against ignoring misaligned priorities. Haggai 1:6 points out the futility of planting much but harvesting little, urging us to assess whether our financial habits honor God’s plan.
Schedule a “financial health check” with yourself each month. What does this mean? Block off an hour or so of time and review your spending habits, adjust where necessary, and pray for wisdom in managing your resources.
3. Move From Scarcity to Abundance Thinking
It’s easy to get stuck in a scarcity mindset, thinking there’s never enough to go around. But Deuteronomy 28:5 promises that God blesses those who trust Him: “Your basket and your kneading trough will be blessed.” By shifting your focus to God’s abundance, you can embrace generosity and faith in His provision. Proverbs 3:9-10 teaches that when we honor God with our wealth, He blesses us in ways that overflow into every area of life.
Challenge yourself to practice generosity this week. Whether through tithing, helping someone in need, or donating to a cause, trust that God will provide as you give.
