Gen 9:8–17- Then God said to Noah and to his sons with him: “I now establish my covenant with you and with your descendants after you and with every living creature that was with you—the birds, the livestock and all the wild animals, all those that came out of the ark with you—every living creature on earth. 11 I establish my covenant with you:.
The Significance of Rainbows in God’s Covenant. One clear example of God’s promise is in the story of Noah. After the flood, God promised never to flood the earth again. To show this promise, He gave a visible sign: the rainbow. This reminder in the sky lifts our eyes upward—to His greatness, beauty, and faithfulness.
From a scientific view, a rainbow is a great symbol. It forms when light hits water—when something that caused harm meets God’s light. The colors were always there, but they need the right conditions to show. Similarly, when our challenges meet His goodness, everything is made whole. As He promised, all things work together for good.
In making this promise, God gives Noah and his family a fresh start, similar to the commands given to Adam and Eve. Every time they saw the sky after a storm, they remembered God’s mercy, the promise of restoration, and the certainty of His Word. Noah represented the ultimate promise—his name means “rest,” highlighting the peace that only God can offer. Though Noah was the vessel for God’s plan, he foreshadowed what was to come. The Ark, built by God’s command, had one door—the only way in and out, which is Jesus, the true path to salvation. He is the rainbow in the sky, symbolizing God’s lasting promise. He fulfills the promise of renewal, as the old has passed away, and in Him, everything is being made new.
What if you lived as if His promises were true? Would you follow God more often? Would you prefer His presence over temporary comforts? Would you release your desire for revenge and trust Him for fairness? Would you be brave in your obedience, even if it makes you different from others?
Jesus Christ is God’s greatest promise. His life, death, and resurrection are the meanings behind symbols like the rainbow and the door in the Bible. The Bible teaches that if we believe in Jesus and call on His name, we will be saved. This is the most beautiful promise in Scripture.
Focus on what reminds you of His truth, whether it’s a rainbow or a personal reminder. By accepting His son and believing in His promises, we can live as we were meant to.
Noah’s faith was rooted in his reverence for God. Before the rain or flood waters came, Noah built a boat according to God’s instructions because He trusted in the God who spoke these things to him. Though Noah could not see what was coming, having faith looked like honouring and revering God through his obedience.

Reflections: Courage is required when following Jesus and accessed only when we step into the place where it is needed. Humble yourself and ask for the courage you need to take the next step in your walk with Him.

Prayer: Lord, when the devil tempted Jesus, your truth protected him. Plant your truth deep into the hearts of our leaders so they—and our nation—can enjoy your protection. I pray our leaders will turn to you in times of turmoil and when deceit and lies tug at them. Amen.
