Effective Strategies for Spiritual Warfare

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power.  Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 6:10-12

How to develop a great strategy for spiritual warfare?

1.  Do not plan without God.

  1. Psalm 37:5 Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him to help you do it, and he will.
  2. Proverbs 16:3-  Commit your work to the Lord, then it will succeed.
  3. King Asa failure of compromise (II Chronicle 14-16).

2.  Seek God first for His counsel and wisdom.

  1.  Wisdom is the ability to discern and the courage to choose good over evil.
  2. For the Lord gives wisdom from His mouth come knowledge and understanding.
    (Proverbs 2:6).
  3. I love those who love me, and those who search for me find me (Proverbs 8:17).
  4. He changes times and seasons; he deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.  He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him (Daniel 2:21-22).
  5. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you (James 1:5).
  6. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17).

3.  Wait patiently on God.

  1. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes (Psalm 37:7).
  2. Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.   Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him (Psalm 62:1,2,5).
  3. But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. – (Isaiah 40:31).
  4. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing (James 1:4).

4.  Focus

  1. Ephesians 6:10–12 says, “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This text teaches some crucial truths: we can only stand strong in the Lord’s power, it is God’s armor that protects us, and our battle is ultimately against spiritual forces of evil in the world (Ephesians 6:10-12) .
  2. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the         grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ (I Peter 1:13).”
  3. Therefore, in this context, the meaning of “to gird up the loins of your mind” means  to prepare your minds for work, service, or battle. We are to be disciplined and  as   we live out our lives in light of His grace and the Hope that is yet to come.
  4. Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may    be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective  (James5:16).
  5. So let’s keep focused on that goal, those of us who want everything God has for us.    If any of you have something else in mind, something less than total commitment,     God will clear your blurred vision – you’ll see it yet!  Now that we’re on the right    track, let’s stay on it  (Philippians 3:15-21MSG.).
  6. A word of caution concerning spiritual warfare is in order. The name of Jesus is not a magic incantation that causes demons to flee from before us. The seven sons of Sceva are an example of what can happen when people presume an authority they have not been given (Acts 19:13–16). Even Michael the archangel did not rebuke Satan in his own power but said, “The Lord rebuke you!” (Jude 1:9). When we start talking to the devil, we run the risk of being led astray as Eve was (Genesis 3:1–7). Our focus should be on God, not demons; we speak to Him, not them.

5.  Conclusion

  1. In summary, what are the keys to success in spiritual warfare? We rely on God’s power, not our own. We put on the whole armor of God. We draw on the power of Scripture—the Word of God is the Spirit’s sword. We pray in perseverance and holiness, making our appeal to God. We stand firm (Ephesians 6:13–14); we submit to God; we resist the devil’s work (James 4:7), knowing that the Lord of hosts is our protector. “Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken” (Psalm 62:2).

Prayer: Father, thank You that I am chosen, not forsaken. Help me pray with confidence, not fear. Teach me to persist in faith, knowing You hear me and answer speedily. I am Your elect—secure in Your love and victory through Christ. Amen.
