Therefore, I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Mathew 6:25 NIV
Reflecting on my life, I recognize that the subtle desire for more has influenced many of my decisions. Before I get sidetracked by exploring this topic further, it’s important to take a moment to examine what Scripture says about our true needs in life.
In this scripture, Jesus addresses the common human concern of anxiety, particularly about basic needs. The Greek word for “worry” implies being divided or distracted, suggesting that worry can pull one away from faith. This command reflects a call to trust in God’s sovereignty and care, echoing themes found in the Psalms and Proverbs about God’s provision and protection.
This message encourages us to appreciate God’s daily provisions, often overlooked. Jesus reminds us that just as God cares for birds, He will care for us, too. In Matthew 6:25, He urges us to release anxiety by remembering our Father’s care and focusing on what truly matters. Since He created and redeemed us, we can trust Him to meet our daily needs and prioritize eternal over temporary concerns.
God hasnāt given up on you. And your thoughts donāt have to control your life.
Finding Joy in Life’s Simple Gifts. We often take for granted simple provisions like the rising sun, the air we breathe, the food in our fridge, the clothes in our closet, and easily accessible transportation. However, when even a small disturbance occurs in these areas, we quickly remember His great hand at work. A perfect example of this is when a storm causes a power outage. Suddenly, we are reminded of how much we rely on things like air conditioning, lights, freezers, and, perhaps most importantly, WiFi.
In these moments, Jesus teaches us about the importance of being present and appreciating each moment of life. True joy seems to emerge when we recognize that the most basic needs in life are provided by God, often without us even realizing it.
Much of our anxiety, depression, and poor stewardship stems from choices where wants overshadow needs, causing us to overlook Godās blessings. Are we taking these gifts for granted, or do we praise Him as we should?
Remember to trust and praise Him each day for the simple provisions in life. Keep in mind that He loves you so much that there will never be a day when He doesnāt show up and pour out His blessings upon you.
Even when life is hard, God is close, and He cares.

Reflections: Finally, let’s reflect on God’s daily provision. Consider this: if tomorrow morning you only received what you thanked God for today, what would you have? Would you wake up to air in your lungs, food in your stomach, financial security in the bank, good health, and your children gathered around the dinner table? Or would your day be filled with self-centered desires that ultimately leave you feeling empty?
Prayer: God, thank You for Your presence. Help me fix my thoughts on You. Train my mind to be renewed by Your truth. Bring healing to my heart, either in a moment or through a journey. Youāre the source of all I need. I look to You. In Jesusā name, amen.
