Overcoming Shame with God’s Love

I Peter 2:9-But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a [special] people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies [the wonderful deeds and virtues and perfections] of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

It is so important to have a view of ourselves based on truth, rather than on the world’s standards. Knowing who we are in Christ helps us walk with confidence no matter what circumstances we face. We do not have to rely on our accomplishments or what the world tells us in order to feel good about ourselves. It was that perspective that helped Job in the Old Testament in some very difficult times. It is why Peter penned the incredible words about God calling us chosen and special. May you live your life in the confidence of knowing the Creator of the Universe has redefined your life.

From Darkness to Marvelous Light

Blessed Lord, I am a chosen person, a member of the royal priesthood, declared and created by You for Your own possession. You have placed me here to proclaim the perfection and beauty of who You are. You have called me out of darkness and into Your marvelous light. You have sought me where I was hiding and asked me to stand boldly at Your throne of grace. You have given me fresh clothes, washed in Christ’s love. I am valuable to You. I am valuable to me. I am valuable to others around me. You have gifted me by creating me in the image of Yourself, complete with the ability and capacity to love, encourage, edify, and strengthen others.

Open my eyes to my worth, Lord. Remove the feelings and emotions of shame, guilt, and regret. I am not condemned when I am in Christ Jesus. I walk freely with my head held high, with royal blood flowing in my veins. I am a child of the King. I am royalty. I am whole, well, emotionally stable, loving, kind, generous, giving, trusting, and lovable. Let me walk in that truth each and every day. Defend me from the fiery darts that Satan throws my way. Replace them with the compassions of Christ, in which I feel fully alive. In Christ’s name, Amen.

All true Christians are a chosen generation; they make one family, a people distinct from the world: of another spirit, principle, and practice; which they could never be if they were not chosen in Christ to be such and sanctified by his Spirit. Bible Hub

Reflections: Peter teaches us that, because of what Jesus has done, every believer has a new identity, regardless of how ugly their past may be. This identity allows you to create a new script for your future.
