Finding Stability in Christ During Turbulent Times

Hebrews 2:9 But we do see Jesus, who was made lower than the angels for a little while [by taking on the limitations of humanity], crowned with glory and honor because of His suffering of death, so that by the grace of God [extended to sinners] He might experience death for [the sins of] everyone.

We find ourselves in a time marked by instability, where crises can emerge suddenly, whether through a global pandemic, market fluctuations, or economic downturns. Such events serve as a stark reminder of life’s fragility and the uncertainty that surrounds us, challenging the idea that anything in our lives, even what we consider to be sources of stability, is truly secure.

The Bible emphasizes that a supreme and unwavering presence provides stability in times of instability and uncertainty. In the book of Hebrews, the author addresses believers who are facing turmoil and reminds them of the supremacy of Christ. He asserts that Jesus is superior not only to angels but also to Moses, highlighting that what Jesus achieved through his death and resurrection surpasses the covenant that Moses mediated. This message serves to reassure and strengthen the faith of those experiencing difficult circumstances.

Jesus is the anchor that can weather any storm or wave we encounter in this fallen world. For it is in Jesus we have received a kingdom that cannot be shaken (Heb. 12:28).

In a world where we aren’t promised tomorrow, which can create fear, worry, and anxiety, believers anchor themselves to the hope of Christ and thus fixate their eyes on the city that is to come (Heb. 13:14). Therefore, it is in Christ we can, “…continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips that acknowledge his name” (Heb. 13:15).  Today, I pray you will remember, and give thanks for, all that God has done, is doing, and will do in your life–if you only trust in him.

And what is the moving cause of all the kindness God shows to men in giving Christ for them and to them? it is the grace of God. As a reward of Christ’s humiliation in suffering death, he has unlimited dominion over all things; thus this ancient scripture was fulfilled in him. Thus God has done wonderful things for us in creation and providence, but for these we have made the basest returns. Bible Hub

Reflections: Who or what are you placing your confidence in?

  • How can we remind those around us that there is something more important than money and things?

Prayer: “Father, Thank You for giving us the opportunity to be in covenant with You.  You desired a relationship with a people who would serve You with their whole heart.  And so You did what was necessary to change our hearts.  You fulfilled the requirements Yourself, and ” “then gave us a new heart by grace.  In Christ, we are secure in an eternal covenant with You.  Help us to walk worthy of this new covenant and be pleasing to You.  Amen.
