Breaking Free from Sin: Live Life Through Christ

Many people feel burdened by the question of salvation. Uncertainty and doubt plague their souls. They wonder, “Have I done enough?” or ” Have I been good enough?” The answer to both questions is “No!” But Jesus did enough through his death, burial, and resurrection.

Here are the facts. Since Christ was raised, he can’t die again. Paul put it this way, “death no longer has mastery over him” (Romans 6:9). Because he lives forever, every believer will live forever. These words from Hebrews should erase all doubt and fear:

“Because Jesus lives forever, he has a permanent priesthood. Thus, he can save completely those who come to God through him. He always lives to intercede for them” (Hebrews 7:24-25). Not only does His eternal life anchor us in assurance, but He also gives us a new way to live. Sin and death can no longer have their way with us. That old self was crucified with Christ, dead and buried. Because he lives, you can count yourself dead to sin. You are fully alive to God. Sin no longer masters you. You are living through the power of grace.

The question before you isWhat will be your master? Will it be sin—which will lead to certain death—or obedience—which will lead to a right and reconciled life? Romans 6:16 (Voice)

Galatians 2:20 provides the most concise statement on this new life. “I have been crucified with Christ. I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God. He loved me and gave himself for me.”

And finally, because he lives, we no longer live under the blanket of condemnation. We have been set free from the law of sin and death. This freedom comes once and for all by the law of the Spirit of life. We can face tomorrow with confidence. We have hope. “He who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies. This happens through his Spirit, who lives in you” (Romans 8:11). Assurance, freedom, and hope are yours, just because he lives.

True believers are dead to sin, therefore they ought not to follow it. No man can at the same time be both dead and alive. He is a fool who, desiring to be dead unto sin, thinks he may live in it. Bible Hub

Reflections: “Grace means that all of your mistakes now serve a purpose instead of serving shame.”

Pray: Thank you, Abba. Your Son, Jesus Christ, made an incredible sacrifice. He took my place and bore my sins on the cross. Help me to remain steadfast in the knowledge of His atoning sacrifice and the forgiveness it brings. Grant me the wisdom and diligence to continually grow in faith, virtue, knowledge, temperance, patience, godliness, brotherly kindness, and charity. Help me to always remain conscious of your love and the redemption I have received through Christ.
