Matthew 16:15-16 “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am? 16 Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
The most important thing about us is what comes to mind when we think about God. Anything that is not true about God is a lie, and entertaining idolatrous thoughts is not something we should do. We must answer this pressing question daily: “Who do you say I am?” When Jesus submitted this question to the apostles, the conversation necessarily moved past cultural speculation and community rumors. They had to own what they’d begun to make of the Man before them. Peter answered rightly. Judas probably wouldn’t have said the same thing. He had lived and worked with Jesus for a considerable time by that point.
The Spirit of the LORD had to illuminate Peter’s revelation. It required what he’d already learned from the Scriptures, the living Word of God. We must approach everything written between Genesis and Revelation with the kind of humility that Daniel showed. We also need prayer and fasting. Then, we must submit ourselves to the Word of the LORD. Only by this practice will we meet God. He delights to put His Son on display.
Our hearts can burn like the men on the road to Emmaus. This happens as He opens up all the Scriptures to us. Like John the Beloved in exile on Patmos, we can learn new things about Jesus. These revelations might be so fresh that we do not recognize Him for a minute. This can happen even after decades of discipleship and obedience.
“Jesus is not one of many ways to approach God, nor is He the best of several ways; He is the only way.” A. W. Tozer

Reflections: So, who do you say Jesus is? Ask yourself who He is in your life and define your relationship with Him today. You can’t be real with someone you don’t know. You can’t trust someone if you don’t know them personally. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. He will. Invite Him in as Lord and know that in Him, you’re safe and loved. I pray that you find Him today and boldly proclaim, “Jesus, I pretend nothing with you.”
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to keep my eyes focused on You. I want to see You as You truly are. I don’t want to see You through the rose-colored glasses of who I want You to be. Father, thank You for Your Son. Thank You for Your Spirit to illuminate truth to my heart. Help me believe the truth about who You are
