Deuteronomy 11:26-28 “Look, today I am giving you the choice between a blessing and a curse! You will be blessed if you obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you today. But you will be cursed if you reject the commands of the Lord your God and turn away from him and worship gods you have not known before.
From Genesis to Revelation, the Bible has a lot to say about obedience. In the story of the Ten Commandments, we see how important the concept of obedience is to God. Deuteronomy 11:26–28 sums up the key “Obey and you will be blessed. Disobey and you will be cursed.”
Believers are called to a life of obedience. In Jesus, we find the perfect model of obedience and we follow His example. Perfect obedience brings God’s blessings. Perfect obedience is about trusting in God.
Though it may appear difficult, there are great examples in the bible for us to follow. Abraham left the country as told by God (Genesis 12:1-4). Noah did everything as God commanded him (Genesis 6:22).
John 14:15 “If you love me, keep my commands.
DISOBEDIENCE
Disobedience is either the failure or refusal to obey God for whatever reason. This is normally out of rebellion and distrust to God. Disobedience provokes God’s anger, forfeits His favor and blessings, and brings a curse. Even though a person might return to God after disobedience, the damage often has already been done. We need to remember that obedience after disobedience does not change the consequences of the bad choices made before.
The Bible is filled with examples of people’s disobedience and the devastating consequences. Fortunately, people can always repent and choose obedience, such as David’s reaction to Nathan pointing out his disobedience in having an affair with Uriah’s wife and then having Uriah killed (II Samuel 11 and 12). Even after repentance, consequences still follow, such as the loss of the life of David’s child (II Samuel 12:15-19).
In mercy, the gospel again sets before us a blessing and a curse. A blessing, if we obey the call to repentance, to faith in Christ, and newness of heart and life through him; an awful curse, if we neglect so great salvation. Let us thankfully welcome these glad tidings of great joy; and let us not harden our hearts but hear this voice of God while it is called to-day, and while he invites us to come to him upon a mercy-seat. Let us be diligent to make our calling and election sure. -Bible Hub
Obedience is an act of faith and trust in God, knowing that He has our best interests at heart.

Reflections: Have you thought of solution to disobedience? There is no short cut, and obedience is the only solution! The disobedience of one man (Adam) brought separation from God, but the obedience of one man (Jesus) saved many (Romans 5:19). Jesus directly links the expression of our love for Him with our obedience to His commands. Obedience becomes a natural response to our love for Jesus, as we desire to honor and please Him.
Payer: Father may the fear of man die in me. May the fear of people’s opinions and the insecurities that stop me from obeying, die within me. Help me to be so in love with you that everything else pales in comparison. That saying “yes” to you would be easier every day. Help me Holy Spirit.
