“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. “Colossians 3:3
Today’s devotional scripture teach us that our old life has passed away, and our new life is securely hidden with Christ in God. It highlights our transformed identity and worth, now inseparably united with their Savior.
Being a new creation in Christ means that you have been renewed. The old sinful person you once were has gone as a result of your being completely renewed through Christ. In fact, the word renew can be defined as “changing into something new and different, something better.” That really sums up what renewal in Christ means in that we were remade into something better. For some of us, it may have been quite a struggle to remove the old sinful self and totally renovate our lives. It may continue to be a struggle but know this: if you stay steadfast in your relationship with God, He will continually work in your life to renew you and rid yourself of the stains of sin that may continually plague you.
Let’s be honest, change can sometimes be a tough pill to swallow. As humans, we like comfortability. If we can keep with the status quo, we will. Oftentimes though, we just assume that change is a bad thing and nine times out of ten it is always painful and frustrating. Truth is, change can absolutely be a good thing. Sure, it can be difficult, but it can absolutely be for the best. What happens when we put our faith in Jesus, is we go from being spiritually dead to spiritually alive. That’s a pretty major concept but think about it for just a minute. Something else happens with that change. After we put our faith in Jesus, the Bible describes us as being “hidden with Christ.”
In Colossians, there is a detailed list of things we should get rid of and things we should “put on.” This is part of what it looks like to embody the gospel. The good news of Jesus should spark a change in who we were compared to who we now are. Embodying the gospel is living for Jesus, it’s trying to align our hearts with His, it’s choosing kindness, compassion, grace, and love over other things. And it’s a process that’s called sanctification. It may not be overnight, it takes time to shed some of our old habits, our old ways. But the change, that process of sanctification, is so worth it. And we are called as Christ followers to live in accordance with God’s word. So we should seek to know his Word and seek to embody what it means to be a Christ follower.
“Don’t undervalue yourself. God loves you. Your worth is what you are worth to God. Jesus died for you. You are of infinite value.”

Reflections: Where is your gaze set? What can you do to take your gaze off the temporary? * When you think about your life in Christ, do you invite Jesus into all of your life or just a part of it?
Prayer: Father, I thank you that the cross was, is, and will always be enough. That we do not need any other sign of faith from you – and that we are going to begin walking in the freedom that you’ve already purchased for us. We begin a new life today. Today, we declare again that the old is gone and the new has come. We choose to be your partner. Help us to see and choose the things that lead us into your heart.
