“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful; I know that full well. “Psalm 139:13-14
Psalm 139:13-14 emphasize God’s intimate involvement in the creation of each person. It acknowledges that God intricately designed every aspect of our being and celebrates the beauty and marvel of His handiwork.
What Does the Bible Say About Identity And Worth?
In the Bible, we are reminded that our true identity and worth are found in our relationship with God. Our worth is not based on our achievements, possessions, or the opinions of others, but rather in the fact that we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God (Psalm 139:14).
We are called “children of God” (1 John 3:1) and are reminded that we have been chosen and adopted into His family (Ephesians 1:5). Our identity is rooted in being loved and accepted by God, not in the ever-changing standards of the world.
The word “worthy” has an interesting etymology. It comes from the Old English word “weorþ,” which means “value, price, worthiness, merit.”

Furthermore, the Bible encourages us to find our worth in our purpose and calling in God. We are created for good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do (Ephesians 2:10). Our worth is tied to our role in God’s kingdom and our ability to reflect His love and character to the world.
Our identity and worth are also affirmed through the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ. His death and resurrection demonstrate the incredible value God places on us, as He was willing to give His Son to redeem and restore us to Himself (John 3:16).
Ultimately, the Bible teaches us that our true identity and worth are found in our relationship with God and our position as His beloved children. This understanding brings us freedom from the pressures of worldly expectations and allows us to live with confidence and purpose, empowered by the truth of who we are in Christ.
“There is no reason to keep tearing yourself down when God is building you up every day.”

Reflection: Here is where your identity should lie. Your identity should lie in the fact that you’re loved, and you are fully known by God. You belong to Christ and instead of thinking I need this and that, remind yourself of who you are in Him. In Him you are worthy, beautiful, chosen, precious, loved, fully known, valuable, redeemed, and forgiven.“Loving yourself starts with liking yourself, which starts with respecting yourself, which starts with thinking of yourself in positive ways.”
Prayer: Dear Father God, thank You for the many blessings that we receive from You daily and especially for the wonderful gift of salvation, which we all have been given simply by trusting in Jesus as Saviour. Thank You, that He died to take the punishment I deserve for my sins, and that He rose again to break the power of sin and death in my life. How I praise You and worship You for all Your many blessings. Amen
