But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved. Ephesians 2:4-5 (ESV).
But God, who is rich in mercy – It is a beautiful expression. “God is ‘rich’ in mercy;” overflowing, abundant. Mercy is the riches or the wealth of God. People are often rich in gold, and silver, and diamonds, and they pride themselves in these possessions; but God is “rich in mercy.” In that he abounds, and he is so rich in it that he is willing to impart it to others; so rich that he can make all blessed. For his great love – That is, his great love was the reason why he had compassion upon us. It is not that we had any claim or deserved his favor; but it is, that God had for man original and eternal love, and that love led to the gift of a Saviour, and to the bestowment of salvation. Bible Hub
God has taken the initiative and has demonstrated His love for us. God did this by extending His mercy and grace to us, through Jesus Christ. We were dead in our trespasses, but we have been made alive in Christ. We are saved by God’s grace. God has blessed us in heavenly places through Jesus (Ephesians 1:3). Grace is a part of the blessing. So, if we follow Jesus Christ, we can rest in the fact that he chose us. And in choosing us, he has given us a purpose. We’re given good works to walk in (Ephesians 2:10) and a measure of grace to accomplish those good works (Ephesians 4:7). Many things can make us feel alive, but nothing will beat God’s love in our lives. He has chosen for you to be purposefully present.Â
Our inner person, our true identity, is recreated in the image and likeness of Christ. God no longer sees you as a sinner. He sees you as a saint.

Reflection: Take a moment to relax into the wondrous truth – because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, you have been saved. Nothing and no one can alter that reality in your life. Nothing and no one can strip you of your identity. By His grace, God has moved you from the kingdom of darkness and into His kingdom of light. You did nothing to work your way into this privilege. It is His gift to you because of His unimaginable, limitless love.
Prayer: Paul wrote to the Ephesians, “My prayer is that light will flood your hearts and you will understand the hope given to you when God chose you. Then you will discover the glorious blessings that will be yours together with all God’s people.”
