“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.
Isaiah 40:8
God’s word is flawless and everything that God says will come to fruition. The seasons will change and years will pass but God’s word will remain forever! This is true as it relates to the warnings, directions and rebukes received when one does not adhere to God’s word. In the Bible are several accounts of individuals who went against God’s word concerning specific instructions and received the outlined consequences when one failed to obey.
For example, Ahab coveted Naboth’s vineyard and murdered him. The word of God was given to Ahab forbidding him the permission to take Naboth’s property, but Ahab along with Jezebel rejected God’s word and later obtained the detailed punishment God proclaimed through his prophet Elijah. In Deuteronomy 28 God informs the children of Israel of the blessings they will receive if they follow God’s word and carefully obey his commands. God also informs them of the curses they will receive if they don’t follow His word or carefully obey His commands.
God’s word clearly states what will happen when one deliberately chooses to reject Jesus Christ as their LORD and Savior. “He who believes and trusts in the Son and accepts Him (as Savior) has eternal life [that is, already possesses it]; but he who does not believe the Son and chooses to reject Him, [disobeying Him and denying Him as Savior] will not see [eternal] life, but [instead] the wrath of God hangs over him continually.” John 3:36 AMP.
God is very specific when it comes to His Word and in the Bible we see that everything God says He accomplishes. The Bible is our reference point, and it would be wise to examine the outcomes of individuals who adhered to God’s word and the individuals who did not. The choice is yours, take heed to God’s words today because God will follow through with everything He said.
The phrase “word of our God” refers to God’s word of promise and how it stands regardless of everything that may be fleeting around us. In years past, amidst some of the most devasting losses, all the changes on earth, sickness, and diseases, the word of God has sustained us. It has stood against war, successions of dynasties, over centuries, and it is standing even now. The Word of God remains the same, and His promises are unfailing. The word never changes!

Reflection: The Scripture reminds us that nothing will remain as it is today, and it is an opportunity to apply the infinite Word of God to our lives. The world around us is feeble and frail, the transitory impermanence of all humanity, yet the Word of God is steadfast and secure, and as believers, we can stand on that fact.
- Today focus on the value of the wonder of God’s word and spending time in it. Meditate on 2 Samuel 22:31; and John 1:1.
Prayer: Dear Lord, Today, more than ever, I acknowledge that I need your word. I do not want to go through my days without the assurance of Your word. Your word is reliable and eternal. I am thankful that your word is a rock that I can stand on today, tomorrow, and forever and ever. In Jesus’ Name, I pray, AMEN!
