God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore, we will not fear though the earth gives way, though the mountains be moved into the heart of the sea,
pSALM 46:1-2 esv
Even when we are distracted, hurried, and consumed by selfish ambition causing us to lose focus on the present moment right in front of us, we can trust that God is “very present” in every moment of our daily lives.
Psalms 46:1-3 tells us, “God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change, though the mountains shake in the heart of the sea; though its waters roar and foam, though the mountains tremble with its tumult.” We see this theme of God’s Presence throughout Psalm 46. Again and again, the psalmist’s words remind us that God is “very present (vs.1),” that He is “in the midst of the city (vs.5),” and that He is “with us (vs.7, 11).”
This psalm encourages to hope and trust in God; in his power and providence, and his gracious presence with his church in the worst of times. We may apply it to spiritual enemies, and the encouragement we have that, through Christ, we shall be conquerors over them. He is a Help, a present Help, a Help found, one whom we have found to be so; a Help at hand, one that is always near; we cannot desire a better, nor shall we ever find the like in any creature. Let those be troubled at the troubling of the waters, who build their confidence on a floating foundation; but let not those be alarmed who are led to the Rock, and there find firm footing.

Deuteronomy 4:7 provides a beautiful reminder of God’s faithful Presence, “For what other great nation has a god so near to it as the Lord our God is whenever we call to him?” In context, the people of Israel are about to enter the land God promised them. But before they enter, Moses reminds them of the importance of being obedient to all that God has commanded. In fact, their obedience will be a sign of their wisdom and knowledge to the people in the land. Wisdom and knowledge that could only have come from the Lord God, who is faithful and present with His people.
Regardless of our circumstances, God is present with us. He is not far off or preoccupied with more important things. God is not distracted or in a hurry. On the contrary, He is consistent and trustworthy at all times and in all seasons of life; His desire to be present with you in every moment never changes. Like a builder laying the foundation of a house, we need to get this truth deep into our hearts. Take a minute now to ask God to reveal His Presence to you as you go about your daily activities. Be still. Know in your heart that God is God. Come, gaze, fix your eyes on what the Eternal can do. Amazing, He has worked desolation here on this battlefield, earth. God can stop wars anywhere in the world. He can make scrap of all weapons: snap bows, shatter spears, and burn shields. (Psalm 46:8-9 Voice)
Here is joy to the church, even in sorrowful times. The river alludes to the graces and consolations of the Holy Spirit, which flow through every part of the church, and through God’s sacred ordinances, gladdening the heart of every believer. It is promised that the church shall not be moved. If God be in our hearts, by his word dwelling richly in us, we shall be established, we shall be helped; let us trust and not be afraid. -Bible Hub
“Be still, be calm, see, and understand I am the True God. I am honored among all the nations. I am honored over all the earth.”
