Eternal Treasures

Trust not in temporal earthly treasures—choose to trust in the Lord.

Mathew 6:19-21 ESV

Matthew‬ ‭6:19-21‬ ‭KJV‬‬ declares, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” Trust not in temporal earthly treasures—choose to trust in the Lord.

Nothing the world can take is of any eternal value. We all experience seasons where the world takes more than it gives, but the only taking produced are the temporal things of the world. This is why it is so important we walk out Matthew 6 where we are called to store up our treasures in heaven. Gaining this heavenly perspective not only grounds us, but it will also help us live the most fulfilling life we could ever hope to experience. We were made for and by an eternal, living God and when we embrace things of eternal value, it is there we will find our contentment. Through the work of the cross, Jesus gave us everything we need for our souls to be at peace, even in our inconsistent and unpredictable world.

Genuine rest for the weary soul only comes one way; in knowing we are enough because Jesus is and has done enough. Jesus showed us the way to live by staying rooted in the Father and keeping God central in every aspect of His life. He loved people with His whole being and retreated to the quiet place when He was empty and needed to be refilled. As it was for Jesus, surrender is one of our greatest weapons against unrest. No matter the circumstance you find yourself in today, give in to Jesus, make Him the Lord of your life, and He will reveal a peace that passes all understanding.

In short, boundaries help us keep the good in and the bad out. They guard our treasures (Matt. 6:19–20) so that people will not steal them.

Daily Reflections & Questions: Eternal treasures are the moments that bring us closer to God and that illuminate the lives of others with God’s goodness, peace, provision, and power. We invest in an eternal legacy when we do what we’re made to do so that God’s kingdom grows and overcomes the darkness in this world.

Daily Prayer: Father, please help me to focus on eternal treasures. Thank you for bringing me closer to you, and please help me share your blessings with others. Amen.
