Love Finds a Way

Do not be overcome by evil but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:21

When we are conscious about being inclusive, compassionate and selfless we find it easier to relate and connect to people, irrespective of their background, their appearance or their demeanor. We will find common ground, and as we know, love finds a way. Today, love is a most undervalued and over-used word. But what does it actually mean? Love is a word of action—meaning we don’t just say with our words that we love someone, but we show them in our actions that we mean it. Serving people, being gentle with them, and going the extra mile demonstrates this kind of love.

Loving the hard to love, forgiving the unthinkable and praying for those who spite us is counter-cultural and goes against our very nature and instinct. It is not impossible though. With the help of our God we can love people with His love. This culture can’t just be limited to the Church but has to be so deeply ingrained in us that it follows us into every space that we occupy, be it a board room, a studio, a college campus, our gym or our PTA. We will be the first glance many will have of Jesus. Let their first impression be so good that they want more! More of Him!

Even if you see no present fruit yet persevere; and overcome evil with good.

Be not overcome of evil.

Be not overcome of evil. Learn to defeat ill designs against you, either to change them, or to preserve your own peace. He that has this rule over his spirit, is better than the mighty. God’s children may be asked whether it is not more sweet unto them than all earthly good, that God so enables them by his Spirit, thus to feel and act.

The infliction of vengeance is not a sign of strength, but of weakness. To repress the desire for revenge is to gain a victory over self, which is not only nobler in itself, but will also be much more effectual. It will disarm the enemy and turn him into a friend. Even if you see no present fruit yet persevere; and overcome evil with good Conquer your enemies with kindness and patience, which is the most glorious victory, and a victory which may certainly be obtained, if you have the courage to adhere to that which, being good, is always in its own nature, on the whole, invincible, to whatever present disadvantage it may seem obnoxious.  — Bible Hub

Daily Reflections and Questions:

  • Knowing that God is good and therefore will confront evil, and at the same time knowing He wants to offer us grace, why can we be at times so reluctant to ask Him for grace?
  • How does it feel to know that the motivation for God’s patience with evil is out of His desire to offer grace? How does God’s patience with wrongdoing and desire to give mercy to those who do it impact how you view those who have wronged you?
  • Daily Prayer: As you pray, thank our faithful God for his love. Ask him to help you love others the way he loves you.
