Warfare in the world has changed from who has the strongest soldiers to who has the best weapons. Out of all the spiritual armor that Paul mentioned in Ephesians chapter six, the sword is the only offensive piece of the armor that is used for the purpose of fighting. The rest of the pieces of armor are for our personal defense, for the purpose of standing in the victory given to us by Jesus.

This sword of the Spirit is the Word of God. It’s not called the sword of Jesus nor the sword of the Father but of the Holy Spirit. That means that the Word of God is empowered by the Holy Spirit. The power of the Spirit is released by God’s Word. Verse 17. – And take the helmet of salvation. This is the head-covering (comp. Psalm 140:7). In 1 Thessalonians 5:8 we read, “putting on for an helmet the hope of salvation.” The glorious truth that we are saved (comp. Ephesians 2:5, 8) appropriated, rested on, rejoiced in, will protect even so vital a part as the head, will keep us from intellectual surrender and rationalistic doubt. And the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. The sword supplied by the Spirit, the Word being inspired by him, and employed by the Spirit; for he enlightens us to know it, applies it to us, and teaches us to use it both defensively and offensively. – Bible Hub

You experience the anointing that flows out of God’s word as you quote it by faith. You can experience self-deliverance. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just operate through ministers, but you yourself can use His mighty Word to bring about deliverance and dominion. Every believer has access to this powerful weapon. 

Be prepared. You’re up against far more than you can handle on your own. Take all the help you can get, every weapon God has issued, so that when it’s all over but the shouting you’ll still be on your feet.
