Forward

The LORD said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward.

Exodus 14:15

Have you been stuck lately, paralyzed by fear or past failures? I’ve got good news for you: God is calling you to get moving. Don’t worry. He’ll do the supernatural part that brings lasting freedom but He’s calling you to do your part by simply taking one step at a time in a new direction. This is repentance.

The simple act of moving our bodies fifteen minutes a day can yield wonderful benefits that leak into the mental, emotional, and spiritual parts of us. Not only does science back this up but our bodies confirm it in the way we feel. As we move forward, God will part the Red Seas that hinder our progress. He’ll also defeat the enemies that once enslaved us. Sometimes things come at us in life, and we can’t see a way to move forward.

Today’s devotional Exodus 14 shows us that when we put our hope in our Father in heaven, we can be still and know that he will give us a way.

Wherefore criest thou unto me? —Like the people (Exodus 14:10), Moses had cried to Jehovah, though he tells us of his cry only thus indirectly. God made answer that it was not a time to cry, but to act: “Speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward,” The Israelites were to strike their tents at once and prepare for a forward movement. Moses was to descend to the edge of the sea, with his rod in his hand, and to stretch it out over the sea, and then await the consequences, which would be a “division” of the waters–the sea-bed would for a certain space become dry, and Israel would be able to cross to the other side (Exodus 14:16); the Egyptians would follow, and then destruction would come upon them, and God would “get himself honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host” (Exodus 14:17-18). Daily Prayer: Father, thank You for hearing our cries for freedom. We don’t always understand Your timing, but we know You’re never late. We want to get moving toward the Promised Land You have for us. Help us fix our eyes on Jesus and never lose sight of what He’s up to in the rebuilding of our lives. Give us a desire to be alive and active each and every day You give us. It’s in the freeing name of Jesus we pray, Amen.”
